In October 2007 the national minimum wage (NMW) increased by 17p an hour to £5.52. The youth development rate has also risen to £4.60 and the minimum wage for 16-17 years olds increased to £3.40. Further information is available here.
In 2005 CCPR met and worked with the then DTI and HMRC to address a number of issues to do with how sports clubs were treated under NMW llegislation. The result is that CCPR and DTI have produced NMW guidance for sports clubs for circulation to CCPR members.
The main points that the guidance covers include:
1. The DTI/HMRC will not pro-actively investigate NMW at sports clubs (although it will fully investigate a complaint made by an employee)
2. A definition of what constitutes a worker in a sports club for NMW
3. Guidance for what benefits/compensation are acceptable
4. CASC registered clubs will be treated as a charity under NMW
5. Record keeping guidance for clubs
