Dear CASC stakeholders,
In case you are not yet aware, HMT, HMRC and the Cabinet Office have launched a consultation on Gift Aid. This is a great opportunity for the cascinfo team to flag up its concerns and proposals around Gift Aid. A number of the questions in the consultation are directed at those organisations that actually claim Gift Aid on donations – this obviously includes CASCs. To help inform and strengthen our response we are conducting a short survey of both CASCs and non-CASCs to gauge their views on a number of key questions.
For the CASC team, there are two key issues to highlight.
1) Increase the take-up of Gift Aid amongst CASCs – It is estimated that only 10 per cent of sports clubs registered as CASCs actually claim Gift Aid on the funds they raise. This amounts to over £2.8 million in total, an average of over £6,000 a club. We believe the Government needs to take active steps to increase the awareness of Gift Aid among CASCs.
2) Extend the principle of Gift Aid to include subscriptions paid by junior sports club members – This could provide a real incentive to increasing the levels of junior membership, deliver important benefits to existing CASCs and motivate many of the clubs who are yet to register to do so, enabling them to save more money for grassroots sport.
We would like to ask you to take part in the survey.
